The survival of the British Grand Prix would appear to be looming as Silverstone bosses have announced that the Northamptonshire venue is close to signing a deal. Circuit owners have a fortnight on Wednesday in which to confirm a contract with Formula 1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone as signed and sealed.

Pirelli has said that it is not considering a return to Formula One following the news on Monday that Bridgestone will no longer be a fixture in the sport from 2011 onwards. With the F1’s sole tyre supplier due to leave after just one more season, more changes are imminent.

Toyota has become the third major car manufacturer to pull out of Formula One in the space of twelve months. With word of the exit having circulated already, confirmation of the Japanese marque’s decision came on Wednesday; the news does, however, mean that there is now space on the grid for the Qadbak-owned Sauber outfit.

Bridgestone, Formula One’s sole tyre supplier, announced on Monday that it will be departing Formula One after the 2010 season. The Japanese company has been the only tyre manufacturer involved in the sport for three seasons although the Monday morning news in Japan confirms that F1 is now in search of a new supplier.
