The BMW Sauber Formula 1 team presented its F1.08 to the invited guests and media on Monday. With its brand-new car the team, based in Hinwill (Switserland) hopes to fight for the team’s first victory in 2008. Many might forget the upcoming season is the team’s third season in Formula 1.
In 2007 the BMW Sauber team was clearly ’best of the rest’. The team was always there to score points in every single race last season. And every now and then the team even managed to finish in front of a Ferrari or McLaren. The team has yet to score its first victory but the eagerness might soon bring them its first victory.
The F1.08 was unveiled to the world in a packed auditorium in the Welt centre. Unlike many presentations where a cover is removed from the car, the BMW Sauber was revealed through a screen of artificial smoke on the stage. The smoke cleared and the impressive F1.08 appeared.
The driver line up for 2008 stays the same as 2007, namely 30 year-old German Heidfeld and his Polish teammate Robert Kubica, aged 23. This is not a bad thing as the team did well last year with BMW taking second in the Constructors’ Championship. The result was gained after McLaren’s exclusion but they still scored an impressive 101 points, 50 points ahead of the next team, Renault.
